Anglin Lake, Saskatchewan
- Welcome to Saskatchewan - we left Winnipeg and headed West on Trans Canada Highway 16...when we got to Saskatchewan, this sign said it all!
- Trans Canada Route 16 - the "Yellowhead" Route - this highway was built along the "secret trail" of a European/Iroquois Metis guide named Pierre Bostonais. His bright blonde hair gave him the nickname "Tete Jaune", which means "Yellow Head".
- Yellowhead - remind you of anyone?
- Welcome to Bredenbury - Saskatchewan did everything it could to make us feel right at home!
- Prairie Pothole Country - hundreds of thousands of shallow depressions in the once vast prairies of the United Stated and Canada are home to many animals, particularly ducks
- Canoeing on Anglin Lake - an early morning outing by neighbors enjoying the lake at Land of the Loon Resort...
- Common Loon #17 - ...then a distant Loon swims by...
- Bonaparte's Gull #7 - ...followed by a Bonaparte's Gull looking for food stirred up in its wake...
- Common Loon #15 - ...suddenly, right in front of me..."Hello!"..."Welcome to Saskatchewan!"...Common Loon was my main target bird of the entire trip!
- Common Loon #8 - this is certainly one of the symbols of the wild North
- Common Loon #11 - a pair swims and hunts together until the female lays her eggs and sits on the nest
- Common Goldeneye #15 - this hen Goldeneye rushed her ducklings across the road and down to a track along the forest edge...
- Common Goldeneye #17 - ...and finally to the safety of the ponds and waterways of the marsh
- Canada Goose #27 - young birds were everywhere...this pair of Canada Geese carefully escorted and guarded the creche of goslings (from multiple families) under their care
- Ring-necked Duck #19 - the usually hard-to-see chestnut "ring" around the base of the male's neck (bird on left) gives this bird its name
- Horned Grebe #17 - sitting patiently on its nest...both the female and male sit on the nest
- Four-spotted Skimmer #2 - dragonflies are bizarre creatures up close...here a side view...
- Four-spotted Skimmer #5 - ...and here a dorsal view...comments on the ID are welcome
- Forget-Me-Not Flower - growing along the entrance road
- Sunset at Anglin Lake -
