Boat-tailed Grackle - Gulf Coast
[Quiscalus major major]
[Length 14.5 (Female) to 16.5 (Male) in. Wingspan 17.5 (F) to 23 (M) in.]
Boat-tailed Grackles breed along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts from Long Island, New York to the central coast of Texas.
The "Atlantic" birds have yellow eyes, while the "Gulf Coast" birds have brown eyes (which can be seen in this photograph and is a useful mark in separating them from the similar Great-tailed Grackle which occurs from Mississippi to California and inland from Ohio to northern California).
The two species overlap along the Gulf coasts of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Central Texas.
This male "Gulf Coast" Boat-tailed Grackle was photographed near Rosenberg, Texas, USA.
Photo taken with a Nikkor 300mm EDAF f4.0 lens on Kodachrome 200 film.
