Mew Gulls occur in Europe, Asia, and western North America. In North America they breed in northwestern Canada and across much of Alaska. They winter along the west coasts of Canada and the US. Mew Gulls are distinguished from other gulls by their small, plain, greenish-yellow bill and overall small size, and from the similar Black-legged Kittiwake by the white spots at the tips of their wings. This one was photographed on a rock at the edge of Potter Point Marsh near Anchorage, Alaska. Photo taken with a 300mm f4.5 Nikkor ED lens on Kodachrome 200 film. (Date: May 1988)
